Telecommuncations
Today, “Telecomm” broadly stated, provides the “working foundation” for 95 % of all communications around the Globe. While there is a rapidly expanding segment of wireless communications, the basic hard-wired platform is still the primary base for voice and data communication. Now, of course, most communications is in a digital format or soon will be. The industry is changing dramatically and has seen thousands of major changes in technology since the “Telephone Lineman” days. Keeping current with this technology and all of its facets is daunting to say the least. NACSE will continue to promote Knowledge, Skills and Experience standards for a better qualified Telecomm workforce.
Web Design and Development

The growth and usage of the Internet in all aspects of our lives has changed the way most of us in developed countries live our daily lives. We use the internet for business, for pleasure, for education and for thousand of other uses. The information the average American has at hand is staggering. The design and implementation of functional websites will always be a challenging and changing market. As the use of the Internet changes and grows, so will the requirements of today’s and tomorrows Webmasters. No one should be naïve enough to believe that their 12 year old nephew can design and build a good quality, functioning website for their business. A Professional Website takes knowledge, skill and experience to build a website of functioning value.

Today’s NACSE, Professional Certified WebMaster’s have studied, learned and Interned on many, many websites and have both the academic understanding of the technology but the hands-on experience to back up that knowledge. If you want a valid, functioning website, use a NACSE Certified WebMaster.

Business Ethics for IT Professionals
Our newest and maybe our most important IT discipline. It has become clear over the past 25 years that computer geeks, who are typically brilliant technologically, are frequently less than capable when it comes to business. Almost all college and university programs, including degree p0rogrtams, are devoid of basic business skills that any business person should know and some very important ones that apply directly to IT Professionals. Those topics include a study in Ethics, a study in dealing and negotiating with clients, a study in conflict management and conflict avoidance, basic accounting concepts, managing and grooming your workforce, teaching Geeks to deal with end users and on and on. Their will be a continuous demand for broader business skills as the IT industry and its workforce mature. In the past we have been satisfied with the mediocre training and certifications currently being offered in the industry. Programs with NO business skill requirements and few experience requirements. The IT Tech of the future needs to be knowledgeable, talented, properly trained AND EXPERIENCED!. He or she will need to able to deal with the client as well as his or her colleagues in a professional business manner. NACSE Programs address the whole person, not just the technology.
Data Networking
Data Networking is the foundation of the Computer Revolution in this century. Very few arenas of technology will have more impact on our society and our businesses and our world than Data Networking. Like most technical disciplines, this segment is both complex and technologically in constant change. Creating a workforce that truly has the ability to PROPERLY design, install and maintain data networks is an enormous challenge. Tragically, the traditional educational channels have fallen way behind in meeting the needs of providing a qualified workforce. Further, the fact that Corporate America still has little idea of how costly Data Networking disasters can be to their companies’ bottom line, leads from one problem to another in many IT departments. The solution of course is proper training and that a corporate focus on such training must be a required part of their business.
Programming
Probably the least understood of the IT disciplines, the programmer is in fact that person who designs and builds the “Engines” for your computer technology. Computers on their own are little more than a box of switches. It is the “Programmer”, the Geek who resides in the gloomy depths of the Inner-Sanctum of the office and is only seen when the moon is full, : ) (please don’t send letters about our comments, we love our programmers.) who make all of this technology work. The programmer’s work truly determines how well (or poorly) the business functionality of a particular program will be. The biggest challenge to all programming projects is getting the end user and the programmer on the same page of understanding. NACSE includes a sizeable requirement in its various Programming segments that include discussions on making sure that everyone understands the scope, the direction and the requirements of a project. (This, by the way, is precisely where the term “Project Management” originally came from. NACSE also includes several Introduction to Project Management Classes, available to all disciplines within IT.
